“I love the ball.”
This was Ronaldinho’s response to being asked what made him such a great soccer player. If you have not heard, on January 16 Ronaldinho Gaucho retired from the beautiful game. He made the game fun to watch not only because of his skill but because you could tell he genuinely enjoyed what he was doing. Whether it be playing for the Brazilian National Team, Barcelona in a Champions League match or some friendly knock about out on the streets, he was always playing with that famous smile on his face. With Ronaldinho’s retirement, I honestly believe the game is losing one of the best players of our time, a player whose creativity and technical execution made him a standout among his peers and role model for generations to come. The video attached opens up showing his passion and love for soccer. About a minute in you get to see what made Ronaldinho, well, Ronaldinho.

At 5:03 is an amazing play that I am glad they took the time to replay it. I won’t spoil it for you.
At the end of my goal making email, I said something along the lines of love what you do and do what you love. Agree or disagree but I believe Ronaldinho to be a perfect example of this philosophy.
To the soccer players reading this I challenge you to watch the video, find a move that you love and practice it. Make it your own. Share it with your friends or better yet, use it on them at practice and opponents in a game. If you don’t succeed the first, second, or third try, go for a fourth, fifth, sixth, hundredth! Never stop trying and don’t give up on it. Try the no look pass, the heal flick, the snake/elastico (slide the ball to the outside using the outside of your foot and then dip your toe behind the ball and use the inside of your foot to cut back in). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sL513Thmws is a video on how to do it.
Thank you to Ronaldinho for all that you have done for the game of soccer and thank you for reading. Enjoy the clips. Then go practice.
